Clara Barton
Clara Barton founded the American Red Cross in 1881. Before this, Barton was a Union combat nurse during the American Civil War. She famously nursed wounded men from both sides of the fighting. Thanks to her leadership, the Red Cross expanded to provide relief for victims of natural disasters and other crisis situations.
