Mildred Scheel
Mildred Scheel grew up fascinated with medicine, often accompanying her father to his radiology practice. Eventually, she studied medicine herself and became a doctor, before marrying politician Walter Scheel. When Scheel was elected Federal President, Dr. Scheel used her position as First Lady to found the German Cancer Aid in 1974.
